Clove tree is generally 10-12 mtrs high and start flowering in about 7 years. It produces flower buds for 80 or more years and is reckoned as a valuable spice of the orient. When the buds are fully developed and grow pink flush on them, these are hand plucked and dried over several days in the sun. Essential oil is processed from the unopened flower buds, leaves and stalks. Origin and Distribution: It is a native plant found in North Molucca Islands of Indonesia. Clove plants also grow Zanzibar, Madagascar, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and India. Geographical Conditions: For the cultivation of the plants, well drained rich soil with sufficient soil moisture is preferred. Further, the plant requires high atmospheric temperature (25 to 35 degree).
