Gooseberry is a white, yellow, red or green berry according to the species, with a thorny, hairy or even skin. The different varieties are distinguished from each other by the time of maturation, taste, color, size, shape of the fruit and the way in which it is consumed. The most outstanding is the yellowish fruit with hairy skin, although there are also varieties of reddish, pale whitish green and dark green skin.
Its strange taste is never sweet enough to enable the consumer to eat it raw, so it is normally used it in the processing of different by-products. Nevertheless, some varieties like Early Sulphur are consumed raw. Other varieties are more suitable to be cooked, like Careless, Leveller, Whinham"s Industry and Howard"s Lancer, and the rest are intended for processing jam and preserves, like Keepsake and Lancashire Lad.

The skin of ripe gooseberries is hard and it looses its colour with the heat treatment.
Gooseberries are also served as garnish for meat and fish dishes. They have a high content of pectin and citric acid. The energetic value for each 100 g of fresh product is between 34-40 kcal.

Cranberries are commonly planted from cuttings, not seeds. Cranberry vines donâ??t need to be replanted. They can continue producing indefinitely. Asparagus is a high-value, labor-intensive perennial vegetable. It is an early season crop that lends itself well to small-scale and part-time farming operations as well as direct-to-consumer retail marketers when combined with other crops. Asparagus is a low calorie, nutritious vegetable that is high in iron, fiber, and vitamins C and A; one cup of asparagus contains 3 grams of protein.
The word Asparagus is derived from the Greek word aspharagos meaning â??sproutâ?? or â??shoot.â?? Asparagus is a member of the lily family and is related to garlic, onions, and leeks. It was first cultivated in Western Europe over 2,500 years ago and ancient Greeks and Romans believed the vegetable helped prevent bee stings, and helped with wounds, infections, and toothaches. Under ideal conditions, an asparagus spear can grow 10â?³ in a 24- hour period.
There are three different kinds of asparagus: green, white and purple.

The Strawberry is a succulent and fragrant fruit of bright red color, obtained from the plant with the same name. In the West it is considered as the â??queen of the fruit". It is eaten raw and used to make jam, stewed fruit... It is also used with medicinal purposes, since it has excellent benefits for health.
Strawberries (Fragaria vesca) grew spontaneously in the forests. Its culture started quite late, since it is a very fragile fruit; in order to obtain a maximum yield in a whole month harvest, the field needed a permanent dedication.
The edible fruit is commonly known as "etaerioâ??. It is a false fruit consisting of a receptacle bearing the achenes (seed-like parts), small and of pale color in the part that was exposed to the shade and a dark reddish color in the part that has been exposed to the sun. The achenes can be inserted in the flesh, superficial or protuberant. There may be numerous or scarce. The protuberant achenes increase the resistance of the surface, but during washing many of them come off. The consumer normally prefers the fruit with few achenes, since they remain between the teeth when we bite them.
The central part or "heartâ?? of the fruit may be well-developed or very little developed, we may also find â??heartlessâ?? fruits. This is a negative characteristic. The fruits have various shapes, according to the cultivar: conical, conical-elongate, conical-rounded, spheroidal, oblate and kidney shape.
Strawberries are usually harvested at the beginning of summer. Wild strawberries are generally smaller than the cultivated ones, but they have a better aroma and taste, slightly bittersweet.
Strawberries are low in calories. Their energetic value per 100 g of edible fresh fruit ranges from 27 to 34 kcal. Apart from water, their main component are carbohydrates. Fructose represents practically half of the glucids and the rest is mainly glucose. It has a low percentage of proteins. The Strawberry is an excellent source of vitamin C.
