Single row tapered roller bearings are able to harness both radial and axial forces. The axial load capacity depends on the degree of the contact angle. These parts are able to control the axial load in one direction only and that is wht they are assembled in pairs. The axial clearance or preload designated in these pairs of bearings is to be adjusted during assembly. The amount of the axial clearance or preload is determined according to the following criteria: operating conditions, the size and type of the roller beaings, and the specific requirements of the mating arrangements rigidity.
Single row tapered roller bearings are designed to carry combined loads, i.e. radial and axial loads acting simultaneously. The projection lines of the raceways intersect at a common point on the bearing axis to provide true rolling action and therefore have low frictional torque during operation. The axial load carrying capacity of a tapered roller bearing increases with increasing contact angle ±.
