Because of semi-anthracite's high fixed carbon content, elsewhere it has found its greatest use for Pulverized Coal Injection (PCI) in which the coal is injected into a blast furnace to substitute for a portion of the significantly more expensive coke. The expected average assay of the coal is as follows: 1) Ash: 6 to 9%; 2) Moisture: 60. With conventional preparation, this coal should be acceptable in the PCI market.
