Alumina ceramics have high hardness and zirconia ceramics have good toughness. The most commonly method for toughening alumina ceramics is zirconia toughening. Adding an appropriate amount of zirconia to alumina, the two materials form an excellent composite material with high strength and high toughness, with better physical and chemical properties, and a wider range of applications.
