Median barrier is parallel with the highway and used to separate opposing directions of traffic on a divided highway or motorway. It is designed to reduce the risk of errant vehicles especially head-on crash which would be terrible if happens.
Considering the safety of people in the errant vehicle, median barriers should perform well in redirecting light vans, cars and trucks. Traditional concrete barriers is a very common type. Though it is effective and maintenance-free after installation, it should be a little more expensive in the initial cost and more severe injuries.
More and more states and countries prefer to choosing semi-rigid barriers such as w-beam guardrail, box beam guardrail, thrie beam guardrail or cable barriers.
What is the advantage of steel guardrail including cable barrier?
Less initial installation cost;
Higher life cycle-cost;
Absorb energy during a crash.

Cable barrier, also called guard cable or wire road safety barrier (wrsb for short) is getting popular in roadside or median road applications. It includes steel cable and steel posts like h posts. As a result of lower installation cost and effectiveness at controlling vehicles, cable guardrail is increasingly applied by highways or motorways. Depending on tension strength, cable barrier can be divided into low-tension and high-tension type. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, a high-tension cable barrier system will benefit you more in the long term. If you are not sure which type is right for you, call us for professional advice. Advantages of cable barrier: Cover less area and transparent; More desirable for bicyclists and pedestrians; Low cost and easy installation. Disadvantages of cable barrier: Not as safe as w-beam guardrail; Must be fixed after an impact; Maintenance and repair may be a problem for cold season. Open box beam barrier (obb for short) is also found at the road edge or in the center of highways, motorways or other high speed ways. Unlike box beam, open box beam has been coiled into a trapezoidal section. The trapezoidal rail is connected to the post by the fishplates. Commonly, the rail is supplied in 4.8m and 2.4m lengths. According to en 1317, post spacing is 1.2m or 2.4m. Z section post or h post, fishplates, bolts and other accessories are provided at the same time for easy installation. Special request will be available. Product description: Thickness: 5mm; Length: 2.4m and 4.8m or as required; Surface treatment: hot-dip galvanized or powder coated; Post: z post or h post; Standard: en1317. Popular applications: Central reservation of motorways or high speed roads; The approach to bridges; Highway crash barrier; Motorway guardrail. Features & benefits: More rigid performance than armco barrier; Galvanized or powder coated finish; Stronger than other barriers. Thrie beam guardrail is manufactured from steel coil of a certain length. The steel plate is then punched, slotted to fit the thrie configuration. Common surface treatment is hot dip galvanized and plastic powder coated in yellow, green or other colors. Thrie beam barrier can be straight or curved to suit different applications. Straight thrie beam barrier is often used as roadside barrier or median barrier to control the traffic. Sometimes modified thrie beam can be used as transitional part of concrete rail to w-beam rail. Features & benefits: Stronger than w-beam guardrail; Less maintenance after installation; No offset block needed. Product description: Beam thickness: 10 ga. (3.43mm) or 12 ga. (2.67mm); Panel width (minimum): 20 inch; Panel depth (minimum): 3 inch; Length: 2.0m or 4.0m; Post: h-post, base-plated post; Steel grade: q235 (equivalent to s235jr / din en 10025 and gr.D / astm a283m), q345 (s355jr / astm a529m 1994), q255jr; Surface treatment: hot dipped galvanized or powder coating; Popular applications: Connecting part between concrete rail to w-beam rail; Median highway barrier; Motorway roadside barrier.
-beam guardrail is shaped from steel coil into W-like rail and typically galvanized to get rid of corrosion from weathers, rains and other threating factors. 10-gauge or 12-gauge corrugated steel rail is strong enough to prevent vehicle accidents in most applications. Sometimes colored powder coating is used to add view to the applications. W beam crash barrier is frequently found in many places. It can be applied to guard work zone safety, asset protection and control the traffic movement. Manufactured in standard AASHTO, lengths will be 12'6" or 25'; special lengths and post-hole spacing are available. According to the actual requirements, W-beam crash barrier can be classified into strong and weak, most different from the thickness of the beam and the post. Remark: A complete set of W-beam guardrail system can be provided for easy installation and economic cost. Product descriptions: Corrugated Steel Gauge: 10 or 12 or as required; Length: 12'6" or 25'; Surface treatment: hot-dip galvanizing (up to 550 g/sqm) or powder coating; Steel Grade: Raw material conforming to IS 5986 Grade Fe 360/Fe 410, IS 10748 Grade II or equivalent; Standard: AASHTO Specifications; Post spacing: 6'3" (strong post) and 12'6" (weak post). Popular Applications: Car parking lot guardrail; Industrial barriers; Roadway guard crash barriers; Median highway crash barrier; Loading bays; Warehouses; Distribution depots; Service roads; Pedestrian areas; Bridge guardrail. Features & Advantages: Widest applications like bridge guardrail; Galvanization prevents corrosion; Installed on strong or weak posts on your request; Powder coating is optional. Full set of accessories ensure easy installation; Less maintenance; Continues to function as effective barrier after minor impacts. Disadvantage: Reduce available road space for pedestrians; Affect the aesthetics. Installation types of W-beam guardrail Single faced single barrier. Single faced double barrier. Box beam guardrail, although not as popular as W-beam traffic barrier, is also widely used to protect vehicles, pedestrians and equipment, etc. Horizontal rail is rolled from steel coil into a 6" ¡¨¢ 6" or 6" ¡¨¢ 8" tube. Galvanized surface benefits durability and stability. Special powder coating is available for aesthetic appearance and better weathering resistance. At the same time, open box beam is provided. Box beam guardrail can be hot-dipped galvanized or powder coated. The common silver appearance can resist weather factors. However, powder coating means another protective layer. It is often be yellow which warns the drivers to avoid the barrier. A complete set of box beam guardrail is provided, including end treatment, bolts, posts, brackets and other related accessories necessary for installation. Features & Advantages: Easy installation; Higher durability & no further maintenance; Available as median road barrier; Powder coated finish for better protective layer; Galvanized surface ensure long-term use and free-rust; Higher durability & no added maintenance; Full set provided.
