Almonds are a rich source of oil, with 50% of kernel dry mass as fat (table). Almond oil contains 32% monounsaturatedoleic acid (an omega-9 fatty acid), 13% linoleic acid (a polyunsaturated omega-6 essential fatty acid), and 5% saturated fatty acid (USDA link in table). Linolenic acid, an polyunsaturated omega-3 fat, is not present (table).
Evening primrose oil(Oenothera biennis) is produced from the plant.
The oil contains between 8 & 10% Gamma Linolenic Acid along with other Omega 6 Essential Fatty Acids which help maintain a good hormonal balance.
Skin studies have also shown that Evening Primrose oil is effective in the treatment of various skin conditions including eczema.
Borage seed oil is derived from the seeds of the Borago officinalis (borage).
The oil is rich in Essential Fatty Acids and in particular it is well known as being the richest commercial plant source of GLA, an Omega 6 Fatty Acid which is a key building brick in production of the bodys regulatory hormones; it has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of dry/damaged skin tissue
Perilla oil is obtained by pressing the seeds of perilla, which contains 38-45% lipids.
Perilla oil is considered a rich source of fatty acids, and contains both saturated and unsaturated fatty acids.
Flax seed oil is one of the richest sources of the Omega 3 Alpha Linolenic Acid, a key dietary fatty acid in both structural and hormonal functions.
Walnut oil is extracted from walnuts Juglans regia (Persian walnuts). Each 100 g of oil provides about 63.3 g polyunsaturated fatty acids, 22.8 gmonounsaturated fats, and 9.1 g saturated fats. It contains no cholesterol.
Unlike most nuts that are high in monounsaturated fatty acids, walnut oil is composed largely of polyunsaturated fatty acids (72% of total fats), particularlyalpha-linolenic acid (14%) and linoleic acid (58%), although it does contain oleic acid as 13% of total fats.
Grape seed oil (also called grapeseed oil or grape oil) is pressed from the seeds of grapes, and is thus an abundant by-product of winemaking. Grapeseed usually contains 10-15% of this nutrient rich oil.
Grapeseed oil is used in cosmetics for sensitive, mature, and oily skin types, due to its non-comedogenic fatty acid composition. It is easily absorbed into the skin without leaving an oily residue.
Crude oil
The crude oil is naturally rich in vitamin e and other tocopherols which, when combined with its high content of omega 6 essential fatty acids, makes it an ideal product for dietary nutrition.
Refined oil
The refined oil is much lighter in colour and is almost odourless, whilst this process does significantly reduce the vitamin e content it does not substantially affect the content of nutrient fatty acids.
Pumpkin seed oil is primarily composed of oleic acid and linoleic acid (omega-6). oleic acid is an excellent emollient.
This oil makes the skin soft, supple, and more radiant. linoleic acid is essential because the body cannot synthesize it. It is known for the important role it plays in the structure of cell membranes.
