Bitumen Emulsion Grade
Bitumen Product Description : Bitumen is widely used in the construction of asphalt roads and bituminous membrane products. Bitumen is commonly used to build highways, motorways and rail networks. Bitumen has excellent water-proofing properties and is widely used for making roofing products along with a range of other household and industrial applications, from emulsion paints to sound-proofing. Penetration Bitumen and Bitumen Emulsions are used for the construction of railway tracks and by using special types of bitumen such as Polymer Modified Bitumen, the vibration and noise levels are reduced due to a dampening effect. Bitumen has been proven to be effective on both high-speed railway tracks and heavy load railway tracks. Bitumen is also used for surfacing airfield runways and air strips (PMB is preffered due to its fuel resistant properties) and taxi ways. For the Marine construction industry bitumen is used for hydraulic applications such as canal lining, underwater tunnels, river bank protection, dam construction and sea defences. There are also numerous industrial applications like roofing felt material, printing inks, packaging paper, linoleum, electrical cable / Junction box insulation, mastic for roofing of terraces, and duplex paper manufacture. Bitumen Primer * Bitumen Primer is Bituminous air curing ready mixed Acid & Alkali resistant special primer. Application * Concrete surface must be clean, dry and rough. No primer should be applied over smooth and wet surface. * After cleaning the concrete surface, one coat of Bitumen Primer should be applied with brush and allow to dry thoroughly. * The drying time will depend upon the temperature. * 24 Month at the temperature 30C (+2OC) Packing * Bitumen Primer: 25 Liter Drum Note * Bitumen Primer contains volatile and slightly toxic solvent. Keep away from spark and open flames at working area. * Bitumen premier it is manufactured using bitumen solution which is used for sealing of prime porous and non-porous surface, and also to protect residential and commercial building. * Bitumen Primer is used to protect substrate against corrosive attack, is suggested to apply anti-corrosive primer. It is best for protection against sub-striate against atmospheric corrosion and chemical corrosion. It is a mixed substance made up of organic liquids that are highly sticky, water proof, viscous, acid proof as with all surface coating, good Bitumen Premier is used for long life of the system. it is applied by brush or roller and allowed to dry before any water proofing treatment so to avoid solvent it is used in defects such as cracks, broken mortar joints, etc. are to be repaired prior to Bitumen primer application. Bitumen emulsion is a mixture of fine droplets of bitumen and water. But as the bitumen is a petroleum product it doesn’t mix with water and as it is sticky in nature, it doesn’t easily gets disintegrated into fine droplets. To overcome this problem an emulsifier is used. Emulsifier can be defined as a surface-active agent. Emulsifier keeps the bitumen in its fine droplet state by disallowing it to mix with other droplets. As the droplets are very fine they suspend in water. Therefore, bitumen emulsion is a dispersed liquid consisting of three products, i.e. water, bitumen and emulsion. Bitumen emulsion is a mixture of fine droplets of bitumen and water. Uses Cationic emulsions may be used at ambient temperatures with aggregates, which need not be completely dry. Emulsions are less hazardous to use and can be applied in a wider range of conditions. Advantages a) Cationic emulsions may be used at ambient temperatures with aggregates, which need not be completely dry. b) Lower costs are incurred due to a considerable saving on fuel for heating purposes. c) Operating at lower temperatures for cold mixing gives a greater margin of safety, even though these emulsions may contain fluxing oil. d) Not only may cold mix be stockpiled for long periods, but it may also be packaged in small containers and stored. This facilitates the treatment of very small areas quickly, cleanly and economically. Disadvantages A regular water supply is required and this can be a great problem in very hot countries, where water can be in very short supply. Bitumen is a black, semi-solid or liquid substance with high viscosity produced by the non-destructive distillation of crude oil during petroleum refining. The core industry using bitumen is road construction (asphalt) and another significant field is the building industry (roofing membranes, water-proofing felts)
Bitumen emulsions are usually dispersions of minute droplets of bitumen in water and are examples of oil-in-water emulsions. The bitumen content can be varied to suit different requirements and is typically between 30% and 70%. The primary objective of emulsifying bitumen is to obtain a product that can be used without the heating normally required when using cutbacks and paving grade bitumen. In the manufacture of bitumen emulsions, hot bitumen is sheared rapidly in water containing an emulsifying chemical (emulsifier). This produces very small particles of bitumen (the dispersed phase) dispersed in water (the continuous phase). The bitumen particles are stabilized in suspension and do not readily coalesce due to the presence of the emulsifier, which is concentrated on the surface of the bitumen particles. During application, the water in a bitumen emulsion is either lost by evaporation, or it may separate from the bitumen because of the chemical nature of the surface to which the emulsion is applied. This process is referred to as breaking. Because bitumen has a density only slightly higher than water, sedimentation of the bitumen droplets in an emulsion during storage is very slow. Emulsions can usually be regenerated after long storage times by gentle stirring to re-disperse the bitumen droplets.

Bitumen emulsion consists of three basic ingredients: bitumen, water, and an emulsifying agent. Based on specifications it may contain other additives, such as stabilizers, coating improvers, anti-strips, or break control agents. It is well known that water and asphalt will not mix, except under carefully controlled conditions using highly specialized equipment and chemical additives. Bitumen emulsions are divided into three categories in terms of setting: 1. Rapid-setting (RS) 2. Medium-setting (MS) 3. Slow-setting (SS)
VG10 bitumen is the softest grade of viscosity bitumen. This type of bitumen is widely used for spraying applications and surface coating. VG 10 bitumen means that your bitumen is also suitable for paving roads in a very cold climate instead of the old 80/100 penetration grade. The air temperature that matches VG10 bitumen ranges from -10 ¢?¦C to 25 ¢?¦C. Due to the high temperatures in hot climatic zones, the application of VG10 cannot provide desirable rutting resistance. This type of bitumen is also used to manufacture bitumen emulsions and modified bitumen products especially in India. As a viscosity grade bitumen, VG10 has a better performance incold weather.
