A solid metal gasket that is softer than the mating flange material that is virtually 'crushed' into the flange
face, creating a seal by filling imperfections and leak paths with gasket material. Under high sealing stress the
gasket deforms but not the flange. They are used predominantly in the petrochemical industry (offshore oil
platforms, refineries) due to the high service pressures required in their processes. Ring joint gaskets are
machined to exact specifications and tight tolerances and come in a number of styles.
Hardness of Materials
On compression of the flange assembly, it is
imperative that the ring joint gasket be
significantly softer than the flange groove so
that the gasket plastically deforms and not the
groove. The use of harder ring joint gaskets can
result in flange groove damage.

Metal ring gasket is by smithing, heat treatment and mechanical processing. It is suitable for oil or gas pipe flange, pressure vessel, high speed joint face, valve with high temperature and high pressure. It has good sealing performance even when the pressure and temperature is not stable.The typical style r are divided into ellipse style and octagonal style according to its cross section. The standard style r gasket is made conform to the api 6a & asme b16, 20 standard, can bear 10000psi pressure at most. The octagonal style and ellipse style can be interchanged in flange with trapezum groove. Style rx is an improvement of style r in pressure resistant. It is a standard ring gasket suitable for all the flange sealing which is suitable for style r. Style by is another item with a high pressure resistant up to 15000psi. 1. The Ring Joint Gasket Type: BX, RX, R(Oval & Octagonal), the Ring Joint Gasket is mainly used in high-pressure, and temperature applications in the petroleum industry. Mostly used for Valves, Pipes and Flanges.
2. Standard R types are in accordance with API 6A and ASME B 16.2 size. For both Oval and Octagonal configurations. They can interchange on the modern octagonal-type groove flange.
3. RX Type ring joint gaskets are manufactured to fit the API 6B flange"s groove, interchangeable with R(oval) and R(octagonal) series, bear pressure can reach 15000 PSI, so these gaskets performance excellent in 6B flange, suitable to the higher pressures with higher vibrations and heavier weights of these units. Spec.: RX20~RX215
4. BX-type ring joint gaskets are designed for BX flange grooves only, it is suitable for higher-pressure ratings starting at 2, 000 lbs and ending with 20, 000 lbs, incorporate a pressure balance hole to ensure equalization of pressure which may get trapped in the grooves.

MATERIALS TYPES
Virgin Teflon gaskets. Virgin Teflon gaskets are produced directly from pure material. They are used in the majority of general applications due to the most cost-effective type of PTFE material and possessing the greatest physical and electrical insulation properties.
Filled Teflon gaskets. Filled Teflon gaskets are made from virgin PTFE material with an added substance to improve their sealing properties. The gaskets materials exhibit strong physical characteristics, the strength can be altered depending on the type of filler that is used to enhance the material.
Expanded Teflon gaskets. Expanded Teflon gaskets are produced through virgin PTFE being expanded in a manner that creats uniform tension strength across the material. This process results in a PTFE material that carries no structural weakness and more flexible. They also exhibit the unique chemical resistant properties of virgin PTFE due to the fact that no additives are added.
