Palm kernel nut is a by-product from the milling of palm oil and can be sourced from oil palm plantation scattered in the rain forest region in southern Nigeria. The nuts can be sourced bit by bit from farmers after extracting the oil from the fruits in villages or from palm oil producing companies.

Palm kernel shells (PKS): are the hard, woody endocarps of the oil palm fruit, left as a byproduct after the extraction of palm kernel oil. Once considered agricultural waste, PKS is now a high-demand, sustainable biomass fuel and industrial raw material.

Physical & Chemical Characteristics
Appearance: Small, irregularly curved, brownish-yellow to black fragments with a hard, fibrous texture.
Energy Content: High calorific value ranging from 15 to 19 GJ/MT (approx. 3,800 to 4,500 kcal/kg). low ash/sulfur content, and consistent supply, making them an excellent sustainable alternative to coal or wood chips for industrial power plants and boilers

Composition: High in lignin (approx. 50-54%) and carbon (approx. 45-50%), contributing to its high energy density and structural strength.
Moisture & Ash: Typically contains 10-15% moisture and very low ash content (approx. 3.5%), making it a cleaner-burning alternative to coal.
Density: Exhibits a high bulk density of about 520-620 kg/m�³, which reduces hauling costs compared to other biomass.

Its hard, porous structure makes it an ideal precursor for high-grade activated carbon used in water purification, gold recovery, and air filtration.

High Saturated Fat Content: It is one of the few vegetable oils naturally semi-solid at room temperature, thanks to its high saturated fat content (around 45-50% of the total).
