Damask roses (R. damascena) are queens of the Persian and Arabian gardens and the most fragrant roses of the Old Garden. They are not only beautiful: the roses with 60 petals are enchanting but they also have healing properties. Studies of rose oil and essential oil obtained from them show the presence of antioxidants (substances that inhibit the oxidation of organic substances), antibacterial and antimicrobial activity.
There is a suggestion that the Damask roses come from a cross between R. gallica (R. of Gallia) and R. phhenicia (R. in Phoenician). Inner Damask roses the side of the East.
