The edible fruit has a dark reddish purple rind when ripe. Its seed is recalcitrant. Botanically an aril, the fragrant edible flesh is sweet and sour, with a citrus flavor and peach texture. The mangosteen is closely related to other edible tropical fruits, such as the button mangosteen and the lemon drop mangosteen.9 Botanically, it is not related to the mango.
