Gilsonite or Natural Bitumen by Monamorco is also known as Natural Asphalt, Asphalting, and is soluble in petroleum asphalt solvents. Gilsonite is used in the hardening of oil products and it is easily converted to powder form.Gilsonite Natural Asphalt , Natural Bitumen , Hard Asphalt or Hard Asphaltum is used as a performance-enhancing agent for asphalt mixes. Gilsonite-modified paving mixes achieve higher PG grades and incorporate perfectly into the asphalt blend with no need for high shear milling as is the case with many other modifiers.
Bitumen emulsions are usually dispersions of minute droplets of bitumen in water and are examples of oil-in-water emulsions. The bitumen content can be varied to suit different requirements and is typically between 30% and 70%. The primary objective of emulsifying bitumen is to obtain a product that can be used without the heating normally required when using cutbacks and paving grade bitumen. In the manufacture of bitumen emulsions, hot bitumen is sheared rapidly in water containing an emulsifying chemical (emulsifier). This produces very small particles of bitumen (the dispersed phase) dispersed in water (the continuous phase). The bitumen particles are stabilized in suspension and do not readily coalesce due to the presence of the emulsifier, which is concentrated on the surface of the bitumen particles. During application, the water in a bitumen emulsion is either lost by evaporation, or it may separate from the bitumen because of the chemical nature of the surface to which the emulsion is applied. This process is referred to as breaking. Because bitumen has a density only slightly higher than water, sedimentation of the bitumen droplets in an emulsion during storage is very slow. Emulsions can usually be regenerated after long storage times by gentle stirring to re-disperse the bitumen droplets.
Standard Viscosity Grade Bitumen (AC-Grades), in which the Viscosity of the standard bitumen (asphalt) is measured at 60 C (140 F). RTFOT Viscosity Grade Bitumen (AR-Grades), in which the Viscosity of bitumen (asphalt) is measured at 60 C (140 F) after the roll on thin film oven test. Viscosity grade bitumen have a thermoplastic property which causes the material to soften at high temperatures and to harden at lower temperatures. This unique temperature/ viscosity relationship is important when determining the performance parameters such as the adhesion, rheology, durability and application temperatures of bitumen. In the Viscosity Graded Bitumen specifications further special emphasizes is placed on the Bitumen ductility.
Performance Grade (PG) bitumen is bitumen which is graded based on its performance at different temperatures. The Long-Term Pavement Performance(LTPP) has given certain algorithm to calculate the temperature of the pavement based on the temperature of the air above. From this, the highest and the lowest temperatures of the pavement is calculated and the bitumen that performs well in that temperature range is selected. Penetration grading and viscosity grading are somewhat limited in their ability to fully characterize asphalt binder for use in Hot Mix Asphalt(HMA) pavement. Therefore, as part of the Superpave research effort new binder tests and specifications were developed to more accurately and fully characterize asphalt binders for use in HMA pavements. These tests and specifications are specifically designed to address HMA pavement performance parameters such as rutting, fatigue cracking and thermal cracking.

Gilsonite is a natural, resinous hydrocarbon found in the Uintah Basin in northeastern Utah; thus, it is also called Uintaite. This natural asphalt is similar to a hard petroleum asphalt and is often called a natural asphalt, asphaltite, uintaite, or asphalt. Gilsonite is soluble in aromatic and aliphatic solvents, as well as petroleum asphalt. Due to its unique compatibility, Gilsonite is frequently used to harden softer petroleum products. Gilsonite in mass is a shiny, black substance similar in appearance to the mineral obsidian. It is brittle and can be easily crushed into a dark brown powder. When added to asphalt cement or hot mix asphalt in production, Gilsonite helps produce paving mixes of dramatically increased stability. Oxidized Bitumen is a type of Bitumen that obtains from blowing air to the Pure VB (vacuum bottom) Bitumen. Oxidized Bitumen has a lower penetration point and more softening point in comparison to VB. Based on its softening point and penetration points, it classifies into three types of low, medium and hard Oxidized Bitumen. Oxidized Bitumen is well known by other names also as Blown Bitumen, Hard Bitumen, Blown Asphalt, and Oxidized Asphalt. Process of Production of Oxidized Bitumen by Air Blowing
Process for the oxidation of bitumen, according to which a feed stream of bitumen and a stream of air or of another gaseous oxidizing agent are sent to a pressurized reactor, said reactor being a so-called rotary apparatus . The reaction between the gaseous oxidizing agent and the bitumen or other in the reactor is improved by generating turbulence by means of rotor-stator type mixing devices which produce shear forces making it possible to obtain a good dispersion of the oxidizing agent. The Oxidized Bitumen is defined as follows: bitumen whose rheological properties have been substantially modified by reaction with air at elevated temperatures. Preferably, the oxidized bitumen has a softening point (ball and ring temperature) comprised between 85 and 95 C. The oxidized bitumen having a penetration at 25 C. of 5 to 15 mm are preferentially used.

Paint-like mixtures of gilsonite, solvents, and other additives are used to coat and seal asphalt pavements like driveways and parking lots. Gilsonite is also used as an adhesive and waterproofing agent in the manufacture of roofing felt. Addition of gilsonite makes some paint and wood stain formulations more durable.

Bitumen 60/70 is a common grade of Penetration Bitumen category that is used in many industries like construction, pavements, manufacturing other types of Bitumen, etc..
A black viscous mixture of hydrocarbons obtained naturally or as a residue from petroleum distillation. It is used for road surfacing and roofing. Bituminous materials are used for road construction, roofing, waterproofing, and other applications. For the main application, which is road construction, the major concerns, as with concrete, are cost and durability.
We are all familiar with bitumen and have used it in our daily lives. Bitumen is mainly used as an adhesive in asphalt, which plays a very important role in road construction and sealing at landfills and hydraulic engineering. This important material has many roles in the world, for example, its other application is the production of roofing membranes and waterproofing for flat roofs and waterproofing of buildings. Bitumen is also used in many areas outside the construction industry because it has the effect of thermal insulation and sound absorption, which reduces foot noise. Bitumen is mostly used in insulation of roofs and roofs, which can prevent moisture and water penetration. Also, bitumen insulation is one of the most common waterproofing techniques in buildings due to its chemical and physical properties and preventing water penetration. Components are used in contact with the floor, floorboards and walls as a horizontal and vertical waterproofing In general, bitumen is used in construction in all parts of the world as the main sealing material for service bitumen, garden bitumen, balcony sealing, and pre-roofing bitumen substructure. Tile bedding such as bathrooms and toilets that are constantly exposed to moisture must be sealed with water to prevent water from penetrating them. There are also different types of bitumen in construction, such as mixed bitumen, emulsion bitumen, Trinidad bitumen, modified bitumen, tar bitumen, loose and mixed construction bitumen, hard construction bitumen, each of which has its own application
Bitumen is a viscous substance that exists in a liquid to a semi-solid phase. It has a blackish-brown color. It is generally composed of asphaltene resin and other petroleum compounds. Different compositions of bitumen result in different properties.
