The reaction between the gaseous oxidizing agent and the bitumen or other in the reactor is improved by generating turbulence by means of rotor-stator type mixing devices which produce shear forces making it possible to obtain a good dispersion of the oxidizing agent.
The Oxidized Bitumen is defined as follows: bitumen whose rheological properties have been substantially modified by reaction with air at elevated temperatures. Preferably, the oxidized bitumen has a softening point (ball and ring temperature) comprised between 85 and 95 C.
