Bitumen emulsion is a mixture of fine droplets of bitumen and water. But as the bitumen is a petroleum product it doesn’t mix with water and as it is sticky in nature, it doesn’t easily gets disintegrated into fine droplets. To overcome this problem an emulsifier is used. Emulsifier can be defined as a surface-active agent. Emulsifier keeps the bitumen in its fine droplet state by disallowing it to mix with other droplets. As the droplets are very fine they suspend in water. Therefore, bitumen emulsion is a dispersed liquid consisting of three products, i.e. water, bitumen and emulsion. Bitumen emulsion is a mixture of fine droplets of bitumen and water. Uses Cationic emulsions may be used at ambient temperatures with aggregates, which need not be completely dry. Emulsions are less hazardous to use and can be applied in a wider range of conditions. Advantages a) Cationic emulsions may be used at ambient temperatures with aggregates, which need not be completely dry. b) Lower costs are incurred due to a considerable saving on fuel for heating purposes. c) Operating at lower temperatures for cold mixing gives a greater margin of safety, even though these emulsions may contain fluxing oil. d) Not only may cold mix be stockpiled for long periods, but it may also be packaged in small containers and stored. This facilitates the treatment of very small areas quickly, cleanly and economically. Disadvantages A regular water supply is required and this can be a great problem in very hot countries, where water can be in very short supply. Bitumen penetration grade 60/70 means the penetration value is in the range 60 to 70 at standard test conditions which commonly used as a Paving Grade. Bitumen is applicable for the production of hot mix asphalt for bases and pavements and for road construction.Penetration Grade Bitumen supplied by MERCO Bahrain. Its penetration grade ( the measure of bitumen hardness) is between 60 to 70. Bitumen is specified by the penetration and softening point test.Penetration determines the hardness of bitumen by measuring the depth to which a standard loaded the needle will vertically penetrate in 5 seconds, in a sample of bitumen maintained at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. Cutback Bitumen ( Liquid Bitumen ) is Bitumen that is dissolved in a solvent . Typical solvents include Naptha, gasoline and kerosene, white spirit etc. The type of solvent controls the curing time while the amount determines the viscosity of the Cutback Bitumen. The advantage Cutbacks have over Emulsions is a much higher residual Bitumen percent, typically over 80% compares with over 40-65% for Bitumen emulsions. The result is more Bitumen left on the roadway after curing, for the same volume of binder applied. Application Cutback bitumen’s suitable for primer sealing can also be used in the manufacture ofpre-mix asphalt, which is used in patch repairs.Cutback bitumen’s are used extensively in sprayed sealingapplications, particularly in cooler weather where theyprovide improved initial stone retention due to their Price of Product (USD) : 503 Product Origin : Merco W.L.L Bahrain Key Specifications / Special Features : Cutback Classification Cutbacks are divided into two classifications, Rapid-Curing (RC) and Medium-Curing (MC) depending on the solvent used. Bitumen is primarily used to pave roads. It is a brown or black mixture of hydrocarbons, which is derived from petroleum. The consistency of bitumen varies from viscous to solid, and in its solid form, it is commonly known as asphalt. Bitumen is a crucial component of asphalt the most widely used material for constructing and maintaining roads in the world. There are over 4,000 hot mix asphalt plants in Europe alone, producing some 300 million tonnes of asphalt per year. Asphalt is typically a mixture of approximately 95% aggregate particles and sand, and 5% bitumen, which acts as the binder, or glue. The viscous nature of the bitumen allows the asphalt to sustain significant flexibility, creating a very durable surface material. There are many different types of asphalt, each with its own combination of different amounts and type of bituminous binder and mineral aggregate, and each type of asphalt has performance characteristics appropriate for specific applications. Thus, for each application there is a suitable asphalt mixture available. Asphalt is totally recyclable and recycling has increased significantly in recent years. Quantities recycled directly back into road surfaces vary from country to country, but can be as high as 70%. Asphalt is routinely milled and re-laid along with fresh materials, saving money and preserving non-renewable natural resources.

About Bitumen 60-70: Penetration Grade Bitumen ( like Bitumen 60-70) is classified using penetration property. It is a kind of bitumen, which is provided during the process of oxidation of vacuum bottom (the bitumen Definition: production feed-stock that derives from distillation tower residue in vacuum oil refineries) at bitumen production units in a manner that its penetration point (kind of test to indicate the hardness of bitumen) becomes between 60 70.

Bitumen generally is liquid. It discharged by oxidation at 240 to 300 C. So it becomes solid or pasty. This blowned bitumen known as Oxidized Bitumen. We are structured into focused on oxidation Bitumen division to serve different needs of our customers worldwide. We are providing Blown Asphalt(Oxidized Asphalt_Blown Bitumen_Oxidized Bitumen_oxidized bitumen)in various grades including Oxidized BITUMEN 115/15, 95/25, 85/40, 90/15, 90/40, 85/25, 75/25, 150/5 Hard asphalt or Hard bitumen and any other all grades of Oxidized Bitumen according to order. Furthermore, there is 8 types of bitumen. Producing process depend on type of weather.
