The unground product occurs as white to orange-brown, spheroidal tears of varying size or in angular fragments. The tree can produce the gum from three years up to twenty five years of age and the gum produced by Acacia senegal is often referred to as Gum Hashab. Acacia senegal is a superior product and is used primarily as a stabilizer in the food industry.
