Polyisobutylene (PIB) is a Liquid or semi-solid vinyl polymer formed by the cationic polymerization of isobutylene, but the raw materials may also include mixture of isobutane and isobutylene, and fractions of C4 hydrocarbons along with isobutylene. The C4 hydrocarbons are derived from naptha of a crude oil refinery or could also be a derived from plants where natural gas is used as a feedstock. PIB are used in diverse application Lubricants (in production of additives as well as basestock) for two stroke engine oils as fuel additives butyl rubber adhesive sealents, hot melt adhesives of EVA type, industrial greases, cosmetics, PIB masterbatch compound, tyre segment in puncture relief applications.
