The sturdy glass top fits easily on the thick lip of the desiccator, and features a knob handle for removing or replacing the lid. The lips of both the lid and the desiccator itself are ground glass, and should be greased with petroleum jelly before use. In addition to helping create an air-tight seal, the grease also helps cushion the lid when it is set down in place. Optimal flex crack resistance is crucial as it diminishes the possibility of packaging developing perforations during distribution, thereby upholding the package's integrity throughout its journey. This aspect is indispensable for safeguarding the contents within. Standards Our Flex Durability Tester adheres to the ASTM F392 standard for assessing the flex durability of flexible barrier materials. Sampling and Motion Within the Flex Tester, a sample measuring 200 by 280 mm is securely fastened to the mandrels. The flexing process entails a combination of twisting and horizontal compression, subjecting the film to these actions repeatedly. Specifically, the setup initiates a twisting motion spanning 440 degrees within the first 90 mm of the stroke, followed by a linear horizontal motion of 65 mm. This Sharples Strain Viewer is already in worldwide use for the quality control of PET preforms. The advantages of our PET preform Strain Viewer are : - 1. Crystallinity is readily identified. 2. Not only can the molecular birefringent flow lines (fringes) be seen in colour but the black isoclinic lines are visible when the preform axis are parallel to the polarising axis of the viewer. The isoclinic lines indicate the directions of the molecular orientational strains. 3. A special and removable stage is provided to rapidly obtain the correct alignments of the preforms when viewing. For observations of the fringes the preforms are aligned at 45 degrees to the polarising axis and at 0 degrees to view the black isoclinics. The stage allows for the rotation of the preforms whilst viewing. Sodium light is also provided, in addition to white light, for the examination of coloured preforms or completed bottles.
