Carved Ko'e means a carved wicker basket in Tetum. It is crafted using leaves obtained from palmyra palm which extensively grows at the coast of Timor Island. The distinctiveness of this basket lies in the patterns carved on the outer side of the wall which gives an aesthetic pleasure. In rural communities, the baskets are used to store fabrics, household appliances as well as crops. It requires painstaking attention to detail and finest palmyra leaves to produce a premium Carved Ko'e.
