Uniqueness of the production system is the quality of meat produced having utmost traceability and consistency. More than 100 RAS units spread across the state of Kerala are the fish production systems linked to NCAAH technically. All the farmers get the seed (fish fingerings) from RGCA subjected for nursery rearing for 30 days and stocked in the RAS and reared for 150-180 days to reach 400 -500- gram sizes. All the systems are maintained following a common protocol prescribed by NCAAH which includes the same quality feed (Growel Feeds, (P) Limited), close monitoring including regular checks for the water chemistry, and efforts are undertaken to maintain optimal conditions. As preventive health care strategy the fishes are regularly fed with probiotics developed by the Centre.
