Originating in Iran, this spice has been cultivated in Khorasan region since 10th century BC and used in dyes and medicine. In ancient battlefields in Persia, many believed it could cure wounds due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and to this day it has been linked to health benefits such as antidepressant activity.
