Spiral seam
Spiral technology: benefits
Although spiral weld is a more challenging process compared to longitudinal welded, the following advantages are exhibited:
More flexibility over a wide range of sizes, thus able to produce at unconventional diameters and tolerances.
An increased safety factor due to the internal stress on the spiral weld being less than on a longitudinal weld
The use of strip instead of plate permits more uniform wall thickness due to the close dimensional tolerance
Due to the continuous process, any length of tube can be produced as opposed to the length limitation of a plate mill.
The tube is straighter and rounder than one produced on a longitudinal mill.
Spiral weld provides greater strength and rigidity at reduced wall thicknesses.
