FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating)
Alxenses’s offers a series of fiber-optics products based on Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) technology. FBG is produced in optical silica fibers by creating periodic refractive index variations in the fiber core using UV laser light. FBG is an in-line optical filter and its reflection wavelength and spectral shape depends on the periodicity, length as well as depth of the refractive index changes of the grating structure. FBG exhibits very low loss and is low-cost compared to the bulk-optics counter parts. By altering the grating periodicity and refractive index change, FBGs for various fiber-optics communication and sensing applications can be easily produced.

Both Acrylate and Polyimide coated FBGs are available.
Note:
Acrylate and polyimide are the two common coating materials for optical fiber. The polyimide coating withstands higher operating temperature (up to 300°C) than Acrylate material (up to 85°C).

Chirped FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating)
Alxenses’s Chirped fiber Bragg grating is an in-fiber broadband reflective optical filter. Using advanced fabrication technique and production facilities, grating period and refractive index modulation depth along the length of FBG can be precisely controlled to produce chirped fiber Bragg grating with different spectral and dispersion characteristic. The broad bandwidth and customizable spectral shape of chirped fiber Bragg grating is particularly effective in gain and spectral flattening of EDFA or ASE optical source.

Fbg (fiber bragg grating) array
Alxenses’s fiber bragg grating (fbg) array is produced using advanced fabrication technique to write many fbgs in a single strand of optical fiber without any splicing points. The mechanical strength of alxenses’s fbg arrays is therefore significantly better than fbg arrays produced by slicing many fbg arrays produced by slicing many fbgs together. The high quality fbg array with customized wavelength and spacing allow distributed measurement over long distance. Fbg arrays are particular suitable for large-scale sensing in strain, temperature or pressure monitoring in oil, gas, civil engineering, aviation and marine industries.

Short-Length FBG
Alxenses’s short-length FBG is fabricated based on advanced FBG fabrication technique and production facilities. The Bragg wavelength and length of the FBG can be controlled precisely while maintaining high reflectivity and side-lobe suppression ratio.
The standard length of short-length FBG is 3mm and can be customized to various lengths upon request. The short-length FBG allows smaller form-factor housing to be used for FBG packaging that is necessary when sensor size is a concern. Short-length FBG is suitable for building small sensors for temperature and strain measurements and compact sensor arrays for distributed monitoring applications.

Note:
In general, the bandwidth becomes wider when the length of FBG gets shorter.
