Turn the hand wheel to make a pressure through a piston in the machine. A horizontally moving arm applies pressure on a sand specimen until it collapses. Read the strength value from the led display.

Permeability is determined by measuring the time required for air at standard volume and pressure to pass through the sand specimen. The permeability meter determines how easily air can pass through the molding (core) sand.
Stz laboratory sand permeability meter employs the orifice method for the rapid determination of sand permeability.
It is composed of a water tank, a air drum, a three-way valve(on the left of the meter), specimen pedestal(on the right of the meter) and a pressure gauge.
Air at a constant pressure is applied to a standard sand test specimen in a specimen tube, and the drop in pressure is measured on a pressure gauge, which is calibrated directly in permeability numbers.
The pressure gauge dial has three separate graduations. The inner scale gives air pressure in mm of water, and the other two are calibrated directly in permeability numbers one for each orifice.

Principle:
The sand to be tested is placed into the specimen tube or a core box of the required shape and compacted by a weight. This is achieved by dropping a known weight from a fixed distance, and using the energy produced to compact the sand. Principle:

A constant pressure output is provided by a miniature fan which is driven by a special electronic speed controlling motor. The pressure air will go through the big or small orifice. After the specimen is placed on the specimen pedestal, the pressure air will pass through the sand specimen and the permeability result is calculated by the micro-computer of the machine and shown on the LED display.
