Basalt is a type of mafic eruption rock, very hard stone an aphanitic (fine-grained) igneous rock containing generally 45-55% silica (SiO2) by volumn. The average density is 3.0 gm/cm3. chemical composition corresponding to gabbro penetrating stone, dark color, mineral composition including labrado, piroxen, olivine. Basalt eruptions in Vietnam are located mainly from the 17th parallel, especially in the Central Highlands and the South. In the north, basalt rocks are narrow, scattered in some areas of Nghe An, Ha Tinh and some in the Northwest. Basalt rocks are usually black or gray colors. The weathering of basalt has led to the formation of red soil, fertile brown soil or bauxite ore. Moltening basalt can spin fibers to make glass wool, or cast as acid resistant material.
