It is the 2nd most common mineral in the world. Its very hard rock having hardness around 7 on the Mohs scale and its density is 2.65 g/cm3. Quartz is a common constituent of granite, sand stone, lime stone and many igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. It occurs in hydrothermal veins and pegmatites.
