Muga silk is a wonderful gift of nature extracted from a species of insect not to be found any where in the world except in the state of Assam in North Eastern region of India. Muga Yarn is obtained from semi domesticated silk worm called aantheraea asamenisis. Characteristics of Muga Silk : Natural Golden colour The silk produced is known for its glossy fine texture and durability. Due to its low porosity the Muga yarn cannot be bleached nor dyed and its natural golden color is retained. Muga silk can be hand-washed with its luster increasing after every wash. Very often the silk outlives its owner. The lifespan of Muga fabric is at least 30 years. It is an eco-friendly textile product since chemicals are not used at any stage of production to retain its golden color. Muga is a stain free fabric. Muga has highest Tensile strength among all the natural fibers. It has the capacity to regain moisture and can absorb UV rays.
Eri silk is obtained from domesticated philosamia ricini silk worms that feeds on tapioca and castor leaves. The wooly white silk is often referred to as the Ahimsa silk or Peace Silk as the process does not involve the killing of the silk moth. The silk in this case is gathered after the moth is released. Characteristics of Eri Silk : White / Off-white colour Fabric woven with Eri silk have great strength, dense, fine and durability. It has good elasticity. Has specific thermal property â?? if woven in thick texture, it can be used as woolen fabric. It is soft and have wool like finish. Eri silk is heavier than other silks. Eri silk blends well with cotton, wool, jute and other silk. Eri Silk is very suitable for baby dressed.
