The reserve is comprised of an estimated 70 million tons of in ground semi-anthracite coal, under just over 10,000 acres, bordered on the north by the Arkansas River This is probably the largest known mine in the U.S. and it has never been mined. Because of semi-anthracite's high fixed carbon content, elsewhere it has found its greatest use for Pulverized Coal Injection (PCI) in which the coal is injected into a blast furnace to substitute for a portion of the significantly more expensive coke. The expected average assay of the coal is as follows: 1) Ash: 6 to 9%; 2) Moisture: 60. With conventional preparation, this coal should be acceptable in the PCI market.
