Cuttlebone, also known as cuttlefish bone, is a hard, brittle internal structure found in all members of the family Sepiidae, commonly known as cuttlefish. Cuttlefish bone is typically smooth and white, with small, wavy lines or ridges. The shell is rich in minerals such as calcium and carbon, and contains more than a dozen amino acids. It is usually boiled, then dried and prepared as a powder for herbal remedies. Today, cuttlebones are commonly used as calcium-rich dietary supplements for caged birds, chinchillas, hermit crabs, and reptiles, as well as domesticated snails.

Scylla serrata (often called mud crab or mangrove crab, although both terms are highly ambiguous and black crab) is an ecologically important species of crab found in the estuaries and mangroves of Africa, Australia and Asia.

In their most common forms, their shell colours vary from a deep, mottled green to very dark brown.

Scylla serrata is a swimming crab with an oval carapace. The carapace bears four triangular frontal teeth between the eyes and nine anterolateral teeth on each side. The chelipeds (claw-legs) are massive and smooth, and longer than the other legs.

Mud crabs are prized by recreational fishers for their impressive size and delicious taste.

A tiger prawn or penaeus monodon, is a crustacean that lives in the ocean. Since the 1970s, this prawn has been produced in rapidly increasing quantities by international aqua-culturists also known as aqua farmers primarily in Australia and Thailand. Like other prawns, tiger prawns are prepared and eaten in a variety of ways.

Vannamei prawns are tropical prawns that are farmed in areas near the equator, generally along the coast in artificial ponds. This farming is increasingly being certified as sustainable in accordance with the GlobalGAP, BAP or ASC standard. Under ideal conditions, the prawns can grow up to a length of 20 centimeters.

Both are highly sought after in the food industry.
