Cinnamon is an aromatic plant that belongs to the family Lauraceae. It is an evergreen tree that grows to a height of 20-30 feet and has aromatic leaves. The young leaves are reddish in color and turn dark green when they mature. The elongated ovate leaves have pointed tips that are shiny in appearance. It bears a white-colored flower that grows afterward to bluish berries.
Cinnamomum zeylanicum originates from Sri Lanka. It is a tropical evergreen tree of the laurel family growing up to 15 m (45 feet) in the wild. The tree has a very thin smooth bark, with a light yellowish brown color and a highly fragrant odor. Its pleasant scent has lead it to be a perfect addition to creams, lotions and soaps.
Product Description - Cinnamon leaf oil is obtained by steam distillation of leaves from Ceylon cinnamon plant. Oil is lighter in colour and mostly happens to be brownish-yellow. Euginol is the main chemical ingredient in cinnamon leaf oil. It carries a musky and spicy aroma along with a light-yellow tinge that differentiates it from the red-brown colour of the cinnamon bark oil.
Application of cinnamon leaf oil mixed with a carrier oil is used to relieve muscle aches. A maximum dilution of 0.6% is recommended for topical applications. Diluted cinnamon leaf oil is also a popular insect repellent.
