Cup Shape with Counter. The instrument has a wheel consisting of three conical cups in horizontal plane. The cup wheel spindle is connected by worm gearing to a revolution counter in a waterproof housing. By observing the counter reading at the beginning and end of the period of interest, the average wind speed during the interval can be calculated.
