A thin section was prepared for microscopic examination in transmitted polarised light. A count of 100 widely spaced points falling within sectioned sand clasts gave the following composition: 53% quartz as unstrained to mildly strained free simple grains (47%) or composite grains (6%) 11% quartz as moderately strained simple or composite grains 1% vein quartz (highly strained) 1% quartz as highly strained simple grains 2% quartzite (moderately strained) 2% chert (finely microcrystalline quartz) 20% feldspar (slightly sericitised and saussuritised)
