AINiCo is composed primarily of Aluminum Nickel Cobalt and also Copper and Titanium. They are manufactured through either casting or sintering process. Cast AINiCo may be manufactured in complex shapes such as horseshoes not possible with other magnet materials. Sintered AINiCo offer slightly lower magnetic properties but better mechanical characteristics. it can be efficiently magnetized in any direction, and for anisotropic AINiComagnet, it generally has greater magnetic capacitive in a preferred orientation than isotropic types. AINiCo is hard and brittle, Machining or drilling cannot therefore be accomplished by ordinary methods. High Performance Alnico Magnets are composed primarily of Cobalt, Nickel, and Aluminum with the addition of Iron, Copper, and sometimes Titanium that helps make them become stronger permanent magnets. They can be magnetized to produce strong magnetic fields. Alnico magnets produce magnetic fields with strength at their poles as high as 1500 gauss, or about 3000 times the strength of the earth's magnetic field. Cast Alnico can be processed to be intricate and complex shapes to meet customer's demand .Some types of Alnico are isotropic, meaning they can be efficiently magnetized in any direction. Other types, such as Alnico 5 and Alnico 8 are anisotropic, meaning they have a preferred direction of magnetization, orientation. Anisotropic magnets generally have a greater magnetic capacity in their preferred orientation than isotropic. Anisotropic Alnico magnets are oriented by heating them above a critical temperature, and cooling them in the presence of a magnetic field. Unlike casted Alnico magnets, sintered Alnico magnets offer lower magnetic properties but better mechanical characteristics. Mixes of metal powders are pressed to shape and size, and then sintered at 2300oF in a hydrogen atmosphere. The sintering process is well suited to large volume production, and results in parts that are structurally stronger than cast magnets. Relatively close tolerances can be achieved without grinding. It has a combination of very high remanence and coercivity, and comes with a wide range of grades, sizes and shapes such as rings, blocks, discs and segments. With its excellent magnetic characteristics and abundant raw material, ndfeb magnet offers more flexibility in designing of new or replace the traditional magnet materials such as ferrite, alnico and sm-co to achieve high efficiency, low cost and more compact devices. Ndfeb magnet is highly susceptible to corrosion and coating is always necessary. Frequently they are plated in nickel, zinc, tin and epoxy resin.

Alnico magnets are manufactured by a cast or sintered process. Production level cast Alnico magnets are produced by conventional foundry methods using resin bonded sand molds. The magnetic characteristics for some exotic grades of Alnico magnets are achieved during the casting operation and are due to the unique crystalline grain orientation developed during the process. Sintered Alnico is a powdered metal and it is manufactured by compacting finely milled Alnico powder in a metallic mold. The resulting geometry is not fully dense and it must be sintered in a furnace to achieve a solid state. Properties of all anisotropic or oriented cast and sintered Alnico magnet alloys are optimized during a heat treatment process. The direction of orientation is determined in this phase of the manufacturing process which involves heating the alloy above its curie temperature, then cooling at a controlled rate in the presence of a directional magnetic field. Some cast and sintered Alnico magnets are isotropic or un-oriented and they skip the orientation process. These grades of Alnico magnets usually have lower energy products compared to the anisotropic grades, but they lend themselves to specialized magnetizing. The surfaces of cast Alnico magnets are usually dark grey, have wide tolerances, and have a rough finish. Critical dimensions are abrasively cut or ground in order to maintain close tolerances and improve the fit and finish. Sintered Alnico magnets usually require minimal grinding because they can be produced with tighter dimensional tolerances. It is usually desirable to have features developed in the casting or sintering operations because conventional machining methods are difficult to employ when fabricating Alnico magnets.
