Power Diodes (Stud/Flat Type) Silicon Diodes are electronic components that conduct current in only one direction. In function, they are similar to one-way valves. Silicon Diodes, using semiconductor materials such as silicon are used as voltage regulators, signal rectifiers, oscillators and signal modulators / demodulators. Semiconductor diodes consist of a PN junction having two terminals, an anode (+) and a cathode (-). Current flows from the anode to the cathode within the diode. Diodes can be used as voltage regulators, tuning devices in RF tuned circuits, frequency multiplying devices in RF circuits, mixers in RF circuits, switching applications, or can be used to make logic decisions in digital circuits. Phase Control Thyristors (Stud/ Flat Type) A Thyristor is a solid-state semiconductor device with four layers of alternating P- and N-type materials. It acts exclusively as a bistable switch, conducting when the gate receives a current trigger, and continuing to conduct until the voltage across the device is reversed biased, or until the voltage is removed (by some other means). There are two designs, differing in what triggers the conducting state. In a three-lead thyristor, a small current on its Gate lead controls the larger current of the Anode to Cathode path. In a two-lead thyristor, conduction begins when the potential difference between the Anode and Cathode themselves is sufficiently large (breakdown voltage).
