A gate valve can be defined as a type of valve that used a gate or wedge type disk and the disk moves perpendicular to flow to start or stop the fluid flow in piping. A gate valve is the most common type of valve that used in any process plant. It is a linear motion valve used to start or stop fluid flow. Therefore, there is little pressure drop or flow restriction through the valve. Gate valves are used in many industrial applications including the oil and gas industry, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, automotive, and marine. Gate valves are not suitable for throttling purposes.
A globe valve is a linear motion valve used to stop, start, and regulate the fluid flow. The globe valve disk can be removed entirely from the flow path, or it can completely close the flow path. During the opening and closing of the valve, the disc moves perpendicularly to the seat. Leakage from the globe valve seat is less as compared to the gate valve, mainly due to right angle contact between the disc and seat ring, which allows tighter seal between seats the disk. Globe valves consist of a movable disk-type element and a stationary ring seat in a generally spherical body. The valve stem moves a globe plug relative to the valve seat. The globe plug can be at any position between fully opened and fully closed to control flow through the valve. The globe and seat construction gives the valve good flow regulation characteristics. Turbulent flow past the seat and plug, when the valve is open, results in a relatively high pressure drop, limited flow capacity, and low recovery.
Check valves are basically the type of valves which prevent the backflow of the fluid or gas traveling through that specific pipeline. The liquids or gases flowing through non-return valves flow in single direction mainly. These poppet check valves consist of two openings which mainly allows the fluid or gas to enter from one end and leave from the other end. If the flow turns and no check valve is installed, water hammer can occur. Water hammer often occurs with an extreme force and will easily damage a pipeline or components. Check valves are used in many different applications. For example they are often placed on the outlet side of a pump, to protect the pump from backflow. Centrifugal pumps are not self-priming, and therefore check valves are essential for keeping water in the pipes. Also, check valves are very often used in HVAC-systems (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning-systems).
Monoflange valves are used as an alternative to a system which has multiple valves. They are designed specially to provide a compact installation for transmitter and gauge instruments. In an application where a monoflange is used, it is used toreplace other equipment. For instance, rather than having one valve and relying on it to close so that you can isolate the transmitter, two different valves can be used. In such case, a monoflange valve would replace two different valves perfectly. With this, you won't need to have two different valves but a single one. This is because the monoflange is composed of two different closed valves as well as a vent which is opened so as to limit the pressure which is between them. It also has a reduced weight as well as minimal leak paths thereby providing a higher integrity system
A butterfly valve is a shut-off valve with a relatively simple construction. In closed position, the disc blocks the valve bore while in open position, the disc is turned to allow flow.
