Pure paraffin wax is rarely used for carving original models for casting metal and other materials in the lost wax process, as it is relatively brittle at room temperature and presents the risks of chipping and breakage when worked. Semi-refined paraffin waxes contain >1.5% oil content melting point: 60-64 deg C compared to fully refined paraffin which typically contains >0.5% oil content melting point: 60-64 deg C. The oil content varies as per the quality of the wax which could go up to 5-7% oil content.
