Inconel 600 is a nickelbase alloy with excellent carburization, and good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. The alloy is widely used in the heat treating industry. 600 alloy has useful resistance to dry Cl2 and HCl gases at moderately elevated temperatures. Alloy 600 is not suggested for use at red heat when sulfur is present due to elevated nickel quantities. Grades 200 and 201 nickel are normally preferred for handling concentrated, high temperature caustic. However, when sulfur compounds are present as well, or for ammonium hydroxide service, 600 alloy is suggested. 600 alloy is subject to stress corrosion cracking in hot, concentrated caustic alkalies. To avoid stress corrosion cracking, the 600 alloy fabrication should be fully stress relieved prior to use. A minimum treatment of 1650°F for 1 hour is suggested, but 1800-1850°F for 1 hour preferred.

Inconel 725 alloy basically has the same corrosion resistance as Inconel 625 alloy, but Inconel 725 alloy is an alloy that is age-strengthened by a heat treatment process. Since the stress of Inconel 725 alloy is through heat treatment instead of cold working, the plasticity and toughness are still high, and it is suitable for making high-strength, high-corrosion-resistant parts. Duplex 2507 is a super duplex stainless steel designed for applications which demand exceptional strength and corrosion resistance. Alloy 2507 has 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel. This high molybdenum, chromium and nitrogen content results in excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion attack and the duplex structure provides 2507 with exceptional resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Usage of Duplex 2507 should be limited to applications below 600�?�° F (316�?�° C). Extended elevated temperature exposure can reduce both the toughness and corrosion resistance of alloy 2507. Duplex 2507 possesses excellent mechanical properties. Often a light gauge of 2507 material can be used to achieve the same design strength of a thicker nickel alloy. The resulting savings in weight can dramatically reduce the overall cost of fabrication. The advantage of a duplex structure is that it combines the favorable qualities of a ferritic alloy (stress corrosion cracking resistance and high strength) with those of an austenitic alloy (ease of fabrication and corrosion resistance).
