Rose hip is the fruit of the rose plant. It is typically red to orange in colour although ranges from dark purple to black in some species. Rose hips get their red-orange color from carotenoid pigments known as lycopene and beta carotene. These pigments have been shown to promote skin and eye health. Rose hips begin to form after pollination of flowers in spring or early summer and ripen in late summer through autumn. It is widely known as a valuable source of polyphenols and Vitamin C. Inside rosehips, there are small seeds about 10-50 seeds per hip.
