A pipeline between deep waters and shore would suppose multiple infrastructures for pumping purposes along the line in order to maintain a sufficient pressure-this is why ships are used. There is a growing number of desalination unit projects that indeed allow to provide a continuous source of water. There could be an operation where the pipeline and pumping stations are positioned at the shoreline to harvest deep sea water. The RO units would be on shore and connected to the water distribution system. This would obviate the need for any ships and would produce a continuous supply of water as needed. This could be sold as a private or public partnership. An engineering team is needed to get cost estimates to construct such a system.
