The most common type of oxygen scavenger used in oil and gas production facilities is the sulfite ion, which is supplied as ammonium bisulfite, sodium sulfite, sodium bisulfite or sulfur dioxide. These sulfite scavengers react via a free-radical-chain mechanism, and thus are aided by the presence of a metal catalyst as an initiation step. Also, sodium hydrosulfate and hydrazine are used in limited applications
