A Grape is the non-climacteric fruit, or true berry, that grows on the perennial woody vines of the genus Vitis which is deciduous. Grapes as a fruit can be traced back many centuries and there are examples of Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics showing the cultivation of grapes for both food and wine. This continues to this day with grapes being eaten raw or used for making wines, juice, raisins and grape seed oil to name but a few. Grapes grow in clusters of 6 to 300 and can be a variety of colors; black, red and white (which is actually green in color) being the most common. The Blackberry is a wild plant, in general, of which we eat the fruits, very aromatic and somewhat acid small berries of black color. They are consumed raw, although they are also used for making stewed fruit, fruit salads, cakes, etc. They are rich in vitamins and minerals. Besides, they supply fiber and they are low in calories. The Blackberry is the fruit of the bramble, a shrub that grows generally wild in many areas of the world. It is a black glossy berry-like fruit formed by multiple small fruits, each one containing a seed. It is an aromatic and somewhat acid fruit. It is a species known from the very old times, to which people confer many healing properties. They are consumed raw, on their own or along with ice cream, yogurt or cream. They are used to make fruit salads, stewed fruit, cakes, wines and brandy, etc. Our Blackberries are sourced from growers in China, Poland, UK and Serbia. Blackcurrant is a berry of translucent pulp with red or green tones and bittersweet taste. The fruit is small, of black-blue color and spherical shape, with an intense taste when completely ripe. This berry is covered with hair and its pulp contains multiple small seeds. These fruits are not loose; they grow in clusters. The Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum, belonging to the botanical family of Saxigfragaceae) is the shrub where currants grow. In English its name means â??berry of gooseâ?? because long ago it was the main ingredient of a sauce that went together with goose dishes. Blackcurrant is used to make liquors, wine, juice and jelly. Blackcurrants are extremely rich in sugars, organic acids and vitamin C. The quantity of vitamin C in 250 ml of currants is three times superior to that contained in a small orange. Blackcurrants are excellent laxatives. They must be consumed in a short time, otherwise, they will spoil. In the fridge, at 4ºC of temperature, they last for one week. The output is used in the food industry that uses Blackcurrants for processing syrups, jelly and refreshing drinks. A characteristic liquor is made by means of macerating them in brandy and adding syrup. They are also used in chemists to improve flavors and as a source of food coloring. Our Blackcurrants are sourced from growers in China, Japan, Poland, UK and Ukraine. To find out more about our Blackcurrants please contact sales@crescoproduce.com.
Mangosteen (mahngkoot) is often called the Queen of Fruits, due to its â??coolingâ?? properties, in contrast to the King of Fruits, Durian, with itâ??s â??heatinessâ??. The fruiting seasons of the two coincide and they make a very nice combination. The husk or exocarp of the Mangosteen is a leathery purple shell which, when opened, reveals the soft, white fruit which is quite delicate and consists of 4-8 segments, the larger of which contain seeds. The fragrant, fleshy fruit is both sweet and tangy. Our Mangosteen comes from growers in Thailand, India, Indonesia, China and Vietnam. The best Rambutan are said to come from Surat Thani province where they were first planted in 1926. Rambutan is easily canned and thus available throughout the world in a sweet syrup.
