Some material grades of stainless steel wire brief intoduction:
Type 302 stainless steel wire is a general purpose stainless alloy typically composed of 18% chromium and 8% nickel. It is the most widely used stainless spring wire because of its high corrosion resistance properties and good tensile strength. For spring applications it is generally furnished in the cold drawn condition. Type 302 springs have good strength at moderate temperatures. If properly treated after forming they will set less than most other spring materials at temperatures up to 500ºF. Type 302 material in the spring condition is slightly magnetic due to the transformation of some martinsite in the drawing operation. The greater the amount of cold reduction the higher the degree of magnetism. Gibbs soap coated Type 302 stainless steel wire is available in the size range 0.014" to 0.625". All wire conforms to ASTM-A-313 and AMS-5688.
Similar in composition to Type 302, Type 316 stainless steel wire has a slightly higher nickel content and 2-2.50% molybdenum giving this alloy better corrosion resistance. Type 316's tensile strength is 10-15% lower than that of Type 302, and the alloy is slightly less magnetic in the spring temper than Type 302. With its superior cold working properties, it can be used for severe cold forming operations and exhibits short time tensile and creep strength properties at elevated temperatures. Gibbs Type 316 stainless steel wire is coated for coiling and is available in the range 0.015" - 0.625" conforming to ASTM A 313. Nickel coated available on application in size range 0.007" to 0.130"
Shutter Spring Wires have high yield strength and can withstand significant twisting or bending forces without breaking. These are available in various materials such as low-alloy manganese, high-carbon steel, chrome silicon, chrome vanadium and stainless steel.
Technical specifications:
Carbon content - .80% to .85%
Sizes 6.00 mm to 10 mm
Oil or without oil (as per preference)
Phosphate coated
For most of the industrial and automobiles suspension applications where compression, extension and torsion springs are involved, the best suited option are Spring Steel Wires. These wires have very high yield strength and can come back to their original shape, in spite of being deflected or twisted as per requirements.
They are highly resistant to bending and shattering. These wires are manufactured and supplied from sizes 1.00 mm to 10 mm to suit various spring applications. They are available in different materials such as steel, low-alloy manganese, medium-carbon steel, or high-carbon steel. Their thickness varies from 2mm to 6mm, and they are manufactured with high carbon steel, with differing weight from 5kg to 400kg. These wires are preserved with oil application so as to prevent rusting. Packaging is done with plastic wrapping.
Applications
Used in diverse fields ranging from the automotive industry, mattress springs, springs, spring washer, chain bush, tiller spring, shims, saw blades, lock picks, antennas, binder clips, leaf springs, and s-tines, scraper, and several others like piano wires, as well as manufacture of metal swords for stage combat.
Technical specifications:
Carbon content 0.60% to 1%
Sizes available 1.00 mm to 10 mm
Oil or without oil (as per preference)
Phosphate coated
Hot-dip galvaning is a process in which the wire is dipped in zinc to create a zinc coating. Hot-dip galvanized steel wire has the advantages of corrosion resistance, good weather-resistance and long life, so it is widely used in many fields.
The requirements for hot-dip galvanized steel wire are as follows:
1. Uniform galvanized layer: The galvanized layer of hot-dip galvanized steel wire should be uniform and dense, without defects such as uneven galvanizing, wrinkling, and falling off.
2. The thickness of the zinc layer is appropriate: the thickness of the zinc layer of the hot-dip galvanized steel wire should meet the standard requirements to ensure its corrosion resistance.
3. Good surface: The surface of hot-dip galvanized steel wire should be smooth, without obvious burrs and oxides.
4. Strong adhesion of galvanized layer: The galvanized layer of hot-dip galvanized steel wire should have good adhesion and not easy to peel off.
5. The chemical composition of galvanized steel wire is stable: the chemical composition of hot-dip galvanized steel wire should meet the relevant standards to ensure its quality stability.
6. The size of the galvanized steel wire is accurate: the diameter, strength and other dimensional parameters of the hot-dip galvanized steel wire should meet the standard requirements to ensure its performance.
In short, the requirement of hot-dip galvanized steel wire is to ensure that its galvanized layer has good quality and stable performance, so as to improve its corrosion resistance and life.
