We are working with indigenous communities in the Amazon, in a REDD project localized in the Middle and Upper Guaviare river basin in Colombia. This project would provide benefits to the Chiguiro Indigenous reservation, and the ethnic communities of Piapoco and Sikuani. More than anything the project of 181,000 hectares would help in reducing the deforestation of the Amazon jungle. The extraction of copaiba oil-resine ( Copaifera officinalis) is one of the economic and social productive activities framed within the REDD project. This activity is viable, sustainable and profitable with low impact on the environment we wish to protect. It will provide income to the communities while the deforestation prevention and reduction activities are developed. Selva Tropico, the Colombian entity representing the interest of the indigenous communities, offers 400 litres per month of copaiba oil-resine from this area.
