It is a flowering plant from the Amaryllidaceae that produces edible flowers and leaves. It is a close relative of leek, onions, Chinese onion, shallot and garlic .It is a drought resistant perennial plant that has a scientific name of Allium schoenoprasum. The plant is believed to have its origins from China, Siberia and Greece. It grows up to 10 to 12 inches tall and grows like grass, in clumps from the bulbs underground to produce hollow, round leave that are better than onions.
