We appreciated its blisteringly fast 2.2 second 0-15 mph acceleration that s speedy yet smooth the Mantis V2 absolutely shreds tires without snapping your head back.
Its base model comes outfitted with sinewave, rather than square-wave, motor controllers, which lend buttery smooth throttle control. Packing plenty of power, the Mantis V2 handles hills with ease. Better yet, the Mantis doesn t sacrifice comfort, balancing ride quality with raw performance.

Portability
At around 66 lbs, the Mantis V2 isn t feather-light, but considering its big battery and beefy motor, that s a manageable weight. Its compact, folding form factor passes the trunk test though just barely. We d suggest taking the elevator with your Mantis V2 if you ve got to traverse more than one flight of stairs, although if you hit the weights more (or less) than us, your experience may vary.

Similarly, the 52 lbs probably isn t the right fit for riders looking for a super-portable model, nor is it made for off-roading. Don t get me wrong, the 10-inch pneumatic tires provide a reasonable level of shock absorption on less even terrain, its just that well-maintained urban roads are where the wheels do their best work.

Tall, telescopic, and teeming with several of the smartest features the scooter has to offer, the handlebars are one of its main attractions.
They are, of course, where you ll find key devices such as your QS-S4 display a small screen providing insights into your speed, riding mode, and distance traveled which also doubles as a finger throttle, for controlling your pace and acceleration. You ll also be able to view your scooter s battery life via a built-in voltmeter and unlock the scooter with a key-start ignition.
Build Quality & Durability
The frame is made from a lightweight yet extremely durable aluminum alloy. Rubber and reinforced plastic have been used for some of the scooter s more cosmetic details, such as the handgrips and mudguards.
Materials aside, its clear that from a design standpoint the has been built to last. The mechanisms securing its folding handlebars and telescopic stem are smooth to operate, while the savvy S-knob controlling the stem s folding feature is super secure.
Perhaps my only gripe when it comes to the blueprint is the lack of a grippy rubber or silicone surface covering the deck, which I mentioned earlier.
Despite this, the still offers plenty to get excited about when it comes to all-around robustness and reliability. Its water resistance rating of IPX6 is just about the best you ll see on an electric scooter of any class and price point, meaning the Cruiser s very well-placed to weather the storms of everyday use.
Weight & Load
The weighs 52 lbs, which is about standard for a scooter of its price, specs, and extra features. While this makes the just a little too heavy for me to recommend it whole-heartedly as a commuter scooter, it s still great for zipping you from A to B.

On our range test, the UM-2 covered exactly 17 miles in Sport mode, which is also typical.
However, when the scooter finally shut down, I didn t do the typical long push back to the office because I brought a spare battery.
At only 5 pounds, it was barely noticeable in my backpack. So it wouldn t be hard at all to carry two, which would stretch the actual, rideable range in Sport Mode to over 50 miles.
Braking
The unique braking system of the UM-2 lets anyone stop like an expert and beats absolutely every scooter in its class, including the former champion . It even tied the Dualtron Storm, a scooter that costs four times more. Best of all, the UM-2 delivers maximum braking power without worrying about going over the handlebars.
Ride Quality
Part of what makes the UM-2 so fun to ride is that it s a very confidence-inspiring scooter. This comes from little things like the grippy rubber deck and soft, spiral-patterned grips. And bigger things, like 10-inch tubeless air-filled tires to soak up the bumps. But the biggest factor is the overall stability. Riding the UM-2, you can feel free to take a long look over your shoulder or take a hand off the bars to scratch your nose without worrying about going into a wobble.

Removable Battery
It weighs just 5 pounds, thanks to high-performance LG 21700 battery cells, a first for a sub $1,000 scooter. It swaps out super fast and comes with an ultra-high IPX6 water resistance rating.
Dual Brakes
The left handlebar has a regen brake lever that gives you strong, skid-proof braking at the rear wheel, and the right-side lever controls the front drum brake. They re completely independent, so I used 100% regen for normal riding and both brakes when I needed to make a hard stop.
Kickstand
tested about 100 scooters, but this is the first one with a center stand. I wasn t sure I d like it. But it works just like a kickstand, except better. It also comes in handy when you air up tires.
Fold Mechanism
I love the look and the solid feel of the unusual folding mechanism. Though, like many scooters, you need to nudge the stem forward as you pull the latch to make it easy to release.
Max Rider Weight
The fifth unusual feature is the maximum rider weight. It s almost unheard of at this price point to find a scooter rated for . Ramier our resident big dawg gave it the big dawg approval. Stating this was the first scooter in this class where the performance didn t let off because of his weight.
