Cotton is a natural soft staple fibre growing on cotton plant. Raw Cotton fibre is mainly spun into Yarn and Thread. Cotton yarn is widely used in making fabrics for clothes, home-textile like bed-sheets, mattress, table cloth, terry-towels, bath-robes, socks & many other uses. Its quick water absorbing feature makes it used widely all over the world. IT is mainly grown in India, America, Africa and Egypt.
The yarn which is made from finest and longer fiber we called combed yarn. In the combing operation, fibres shorter than length of fibres or certain fixed percentage of short fibres are removed. Since the shorter cotton fibres are generally coarser, removing the shorter fibres leaves behind fibres which are relatively finer. Hence, fabric made from combed cotton fibres has a very soft touch. Combing involves additional processing step and also certain amount of fibres are removed as waste. Hence, combed cotton is more expensive than conventional carded cotton.
The yarn which is made form short staple are called Carded yarn. Mainly the the name card come from a machine of spinning section. Carding is an operation , that occurred in spinning section. The compact spinning is a process where fiber strand drawn by drafting system is condensed before twisting it.The most important requirement for perfect compact yarn is complete parallel arrangement of fibers and close position before twist is imparted. Fully Drown Yarn(FDY): its is produced by a process similar to POY manufacturing except that the yarn is produced at higher spinning speeds coupled with intermediate drawing integrated in the process itself .this allows stabilization through orientation and crystallization. FDY is mainly used as weft or warp in making fabrics. FDY Polyester yarn is used for industrial applications requiring uniformity and consistent tenacity, elongation, and shrinkage. Most binder yarns, industrial sewing threads, and hose reinforcements are produced from FYD polyester.
Partially oriented yarn(POY): partially oriented yarn is a continuous straight multifilament yarn with no twist. Since yarn is wound on to the at a high speed, this orients the molecular chains. this is the reason it is called POY.
Partially oriented yarn is produced from the melting and extrusion (melt spinning) of the polyester chip or flake. During the spinning process the filaments are stretched or drawn as much as five times their original size to orient the polymer to meet the desired evenness, strength, shrinkage, and elongation properties. So the term partially oriented yarn refers to multi-filament that is only partially stretched
