Slack Wax is mixture of paraffin wax and oil originated from petroleum crude oil. Slack Wax oil content can range from 10% to 30%. Slack Wax is produced during the production of Group I lube base oil. During production of Group I lube base oil, the feedstock firstly has to go through solvent extraction process to remove aromatics and the resultant product is called raffinate. The raffinate is then diluted with solvent like methyl-ethyl ketone (MEK) to lower its viscosity to improve low-temperature filterability. The diluted oil is then chilled to -10�°C to -20�°C. Wax crystals will form, precipitate and removed by filtration. The removed wax becomes Slack Wax. The traditional usage of Paraffin Slack Wax is in the production of fully refined paraffin wax. And other major usage are for particle board and medium density fiberboard, cable filing compound , matches, candles, rust protective products and moisture vapor barriers. With the continuous closure of Group I base oil plant which decrease supply, and new major applications for Slack Wax as feedstock for low sulfur fuel and Group III base oil plant, the price of Paraffin Slack Wax has since increased by a staggering 300% since early 2000

Commercial fuel oils usually are blended with other petroleum fractions to produce the desired viscosity and flash point.
Transformer oil is a mineral insulating or cooling oil derived from crude petroleum. It is a mixture of various hydrocarbons consist partly aliphatic compounds These are the petroleum products, like Napthenic based transformer oil and Paraffinic based transformer oil. Napthenic based transformer oils are known for their heat distribution, which is one of the main problems with transformer. This also has a good flowing feature under low temperature and it is wax-free. These type of oils are better for low-temperature. Even though it oxidises easier, the product formed by this process (i.e sludge) is soluble. Hence, it won't obstruct the cooling system of the transformer. Paraffinic based transformer oil is obtained from paraffinic crude oil using solvent separation methods. This is known for its good thermal and oxidation durability and good high temperature viscosity feature. Because of its high viscosity index due to the presence of wax, though the oxidation rate is lower than the napthenic oils, the precipitant or the sludge is formed due to the oxidation. This might become an obstruction for the heat dissipation. One of the main applications of granular activated carbon is the purification of water. Its function is the retention of organic contaminants and the elimination, by chemical reaction, of the free residual chlorine that remains in the water after the disinfection stage. The removal of free chlorine takes place in the first few centimeters of the carbon bed, so there is no longer any protection against bacterial growth in the rest of the bed. Sooner or later, bacteria can enter from a poorly disinfected influent, or from some point in the effluent pipe. This may happen mainly when there is no water circulation while the equipment is out of service. Bacteria reproduce, and turn the carbon bed into a source of contamination. In order to inhibit bacterial growth, the surface of the carbon is impregnated with 0.1% metallic silver to make carbon bacteriostatic using ionic silver to enable it to bind strongly with carbon surface to make it suitable to function and purify large volumes of water.
