S800 I/O is a comprehensive, distributed and modular process I/O system that communicates with parent controllers and PLCs over industry-standard field buses. The TB840 ModuleBus Modem is a fiber optic interface to the Optical ModuleBus. TB840A is used in redundancy configurations where each module is connected to different optical ModuleBus lines, but connected to the same electrical ModuleBus.

The ModuleBus Modem has an electrical and an optical Modulebus interface which are logically the same bus. A maximum of 12 I/O modules can be connected to the electrical ModuleBus and up to seven clusters can be connected to the fiber optic ModuleBus. The fiber optic interface is intended for local distribution of I/O clusters and where more than 12 I/O modules are required in an I/O station.

S800 I/O is a comprehensive, distributed and modular process I/O system that communicates with parent controllers and PLCs over industry-standard field buses. The CI840 Fieldbus Communication Interface (FCI) module is a configurable communication interface that performs operations such as signal processing, gathering of various supervision information, OSP handling, Hot Configuration In Run, HART pass-through and configuration of I/O modules. CI840 is designed for redundant applications. The FCI connects to the controller by way of the PROFIBUS-DPV1 fieldbus. Module termination units to use, TU846 with redundant I/O and TU847 with non-redundant I/O.

CI853 RS-232 module protocols:

COMLI can be used on the built-in COM3 port and optionally on the CI853 ports. The cable length can be extended considerably (to several km) using a fiber optic converter. RS-232C is the standard communication interface used for serial communication with COMLI. The CI853 supports Hot Swap. COMLI is an ABB protocol for data transmission between controllers. It is designed for asynchronous master/slave communication in half-duplex. COMLI protocol supports dial-up modems controlled from the application. CI853 supports both Master/Slave modes in COMLI.

MODBUS RTU is a standard protocol widely spread because of its ease of use and reliability. Modbus RTU is an open, serial (RS-232 or RS-485) protocol derived from the Master/Slave architecture exchanging information in half duplex mode. The Modbus functionality can be configured both on the COM ports of AC 800M and CI853. Module Redundancy is not available in MODBUS RTU. CI853 supports only Master mode in MODBUS RTU.

Siemens 3964R can be used on the built-in COM3 port and optionally on the CI853 ports. A standard RS-232C/485 communication channel is required.
Self-defined Serial Communication can be used on the built-in COM3 port (on an AC 800M Controller) and optionally on the CI853 ports.
The CI853 module also supports Hot Swap.

The CPU board contains the microprocessor and RAM memory, a real-time clock, LED indicators, INIT push button, and a CompactFlash interface.
The base plate of the PM862 controller has two RJ45 Ethernet ports (CN1, CN2) for connection to the Control Network, and two RJ45 serial ports (COM3, COM4). One of the serial ports (COM3) is an RS-232C port with modem control signals, whereas the other port (COM4) is isolated and used for the connection of a configuration tool. The controller supports CPU redundancy for higher availability (CPU, CEX-Bus, communication interfaces and S800 I/O).

Simple DIN rail attachment / detachment procedures, using the unique slide & lock mechanism. All base plates are provided with a unique Ethernet address which provides every CPU with a hardware identity. The address can be found on the Ethernet address label attached to the TP830 base plate.
