Black seeds are also known as black caraway, black cumin, kalonji, and black onion seeds.
They come from Nigella sativa, a small plant with pale purple, blue, or white flowers that grows in Eastern Europe, Western Asia, and the Middle East.
People have used the tiny black seeds of the fruits of N. sativa as a natural remedy for thousands of years. The seeds can also flavor curries, pickles, and bread in a similar way to cumin or oregano.
Black seed oil contains thymoquinone, which is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound that may also have tumor-reducing properties.
People can ingest black seed oil in the form of capsules or apply it topically to benefit the skin. It is also possible to add the oil to massage oils, shampoos, homemade skin-care products, and fragrances.
High-quality black seed oil is also suitable for use in cooking, baking, and beverages
BLACK SEED OIL
Scientists with a range of specialties have researched the possible benefits of black seed oil.
However, it is important to note that many studies to date have used cells or animals as models, and there is limited research available on the effects of black seed oil in humans.
Benefits for weight loss
Research has shown that black seed supplementation can help lower people's body mass index (BMI). The study participants did not report any severe side effects from taking this supplement.
A systematic review published in the Journal of Diabetes & Metabolic Disorders in 2013 found that black seed oil could be effective in tackling obesity.
Benefits for the skin
Black seed oil may be beneficial for people with the following skin conditions:
Eczema: According to a small-scale 2013 study comparing the therapeutic benefits of N. sativawith those of prescription medications, black seed oil can reduce the severity of hand eczema.
Acne: Research suggests that the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects of black seed oil can improve acne. In one study, 58 percent of participants rated their response to this treatment as good, while 35 percent felt their results were moderate.
Psoriasis: A 2012 study on mice suggests that the oil may also have antipsoriatic benefits.
Black seed oil may also hydrate hair, soften skin, and act as a moisturizer, although there is a lack of scientific evidence to confirm these benefits.
At present, there are 4 main extraction technology for wheat germ oil processing: supercritical CO2 fluid extraction, traditional solvent extraction, low temperature pressing and subcritical low temperature extraction. But the some of these methods have a lot of shortcomings.
Supercritical CO2 fluid extraction High Cost, Low Output: As its requirements for equipment is very high, supercritical CO2 fluid extraction machine is very expensive. Besides, its output is low and difficult to adapt to large-scale production.
Traditional Solvent Extraction (Hexane) High processing temperature, high energy consumption, low quality of oilcakes or meals. It is a process of extracting oil at normal pressure by use of Hexane. The temperature of extracting process and desolventizing process is high, resulting in high rate of protein degeneration of oilcakes or meals.
Low Temperature Oil Pressing - High residual oil content in oil cakes / meals; high impurities and moisture content. Direct squeezing or expelling is not suitable for low oil yield materials such as wheat germ.
Advantages of Subcritical Extraction Technology
Subcritical Extraction Technology is a kind of pressurized (0.3-0.8 MPa) fluid extraction process. The extracting agent exists in the form of gas under normal pressure, while under critical pressure it exists in the fluid state. Under critical pressure, the molecular diffusion ability of extraction solvent is enhanced, transfer rate is accelerated, permeability and dissolving capacity is improved significantly. Besides, as it is a kind of low temperature extraction technology, the natural active ingredient in extraction materials are fully retained and protected.
The extraction process is cut off from the air, which can avoided oxidation reaction of special materials and help getting high grade oil products just as supercritical extraction. But the extraction pressure is much lower than supercritical extraction, which is a good thing that makes the equipment price is much lower and also make it feasible for industrialization scale production.
Moringa Oil is extracted from the seeds of Moringaoleifera. It is used in the preparation of beauty and health products because of its unique properties. Some nationalities also use it for cooking.
Citronella Oil is obtained from the leaves and stems of different species of Cymbopogon. It is used widely in aromatherapy, it is also has properties as an antibacterial, deodorant, insect repellent, etc.
Baobab Oil comes from seeds of the fruits of any of the 9 species of Adansonia. It is an excellent moisturizer and ideal for numerous cosmetic applications. It is one of the few oils which is added in its raw state in cosmetic products. Baobab oil is one of the most prominent oils from Africa; usually obtained using the cold pressed method.
