These dampers are typically made of a spiral-shaped metallic wire, which is wrapped around the conductor at regular intervals along its length. The application of spiral vibration dampers on transmission lines helps to reduce the amplitude of conductor vibrations, which in turn reduces the stress on the line, and prevents damage and failure of the transmission system. These dampers can be installed on overhead transmission lines for both AC and DC systems. In addition to reducing conductor vibration, spiral vibration dampers also provide protection against galloping, which is a large-amplitude, low-frequency vibration that can occur when the wind blows across the conductor. This phenomenon can cause significant damage to the transmission line and is a major concern for power companies.
